Guild of Boston Artists Online Exhibition

Erik Koeppel, Sunset at Otter Cliffs, Acadia, ME 9x14in. $2800

This painting is available at the Guild of Boston Artists online exhibition on Artsy. Here's a link to the exhibition:

https://www.artsy.net/artwork/erik-koeppel-otter-cliffs-acadia

You can reach the gallery to purchase the painting at the link. Shipping is available.

I began this painting outdoors on a visit to Acadia National Park years ago. Then it sat in my studio untouched for quite some time. A few months ago I found it amongst some other unfinished pieces, and it stood out to me as something I'd like to continue working on. It was originally painted on a gray day, but my vision shifted as I continued to work into a burst of sunset color. I now feel that it captures the feeling or my memories of this idyllic place.

Artist Talk Saturday, August 24th in Bethel, ME

At the Museums of the Bethel Historical Society, 10 Broad St., Bethel, Maine. Saturday, August 24th, 2019 at 2pm.

Their Description:

Join us for a special presentation by award-winning plein air artist Erik Koeppel of Jackson, New Hampshire, as our major summer exhibit, “Art as Antidote: White Mountain Landscapes,” comes to a close. This free event will begin in the Twitchell Education Center, where Koeppel will share his thoughts on the influence and power of art as an antidote to our times using several of his recently completed art works (which will be for sale) as examples. A visit to the "Art as Antidote" exhibit will follow.

Erik Koeppel (b. 1980) was born in Oregon, and spent his childhood moving with his family through many of the most beautiful landscapes of North America—from the Rocky Mountains, to Southern California, to the Appalachian Range. At the age of ten, his family settled in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, where he drew obsessively from nature, and began to develop a love for the expressive potentials of traditional representation. Erik received his formal training from the Rhode Island School of Design followed by the New York Academy of Art, and an annual apprenticeship in Wiscasset, Maine, with his professor and friend, Seaver Leslie. After copying extensively from the Italian Masters, he developed a body of work that has been exhibited and collected internationally, and represented across the United States. Koeppel’s mastery of traditional techniques has led him to become one of very few young contemporary artists whose work is regularly exhibited with historic masters of the 19th and early 20th Centuries. His work has hung beside Thomas Cole, Winslow Homer, Edgar Degas, John Frederick Kensett, and George Inness, and he has had the distinguished honor of entering permanent collections including artists of this caliber. American Artist, PleinAir Magazine, and other respected publications have covered his progress. Koeppel is a member of the esteemed Guild of Boston Artists.

Reception: Sunday May 27th, 2018, 2 to 5pm (this Sunday afternoon!)

Exhibition Dates: May 29th to October 19th, 2018

You can find details on the Museums of the Bethel Historical Society's facebook page at this link, or read on below:

Description:
The Museums of the Bethel Historical Society will host a special preview reception of this season’s newest displays, “White Mountain National Forest: A Centennial Exhibition” and “The White Mountains: Alps of New England” (an art exhibition & sale of paintings by Erik Koeppel and Lauren Sansaricq), on Sunday, May 27, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. Refreshments will be served, and the event—at the Society’s Robinson House on Broad Street—is free and open to all.
Visitors to the White Mountain National Forest exhibit will learn how the forested highlands of northern New Hampshire and western Maine came to be appreciated by millions for their scenic and health-giving qualities during the 1800s, only to be devastated by un
controlled commercial logging and widespread fires in the final decades of that century. The story of how a large portion of the White Mountain region of New Hampshire and Maine was eventually saved and set aside in 1918 for the public’s benefit is told in the exhibit through paintings, historic photos, artifacts, and moving images.
“The Balancing Act: The Story and Legacy of the Weeks Act” will be shown continually in the newly-renovated theater space at Robinson House; the ten minute-long video describes how one of America’s earliest environmental disasters sparked a nationwide movement to purchase, protect, and manage threatened and damaged forest lands for the public good. The forest conservation legislation forged by Congress under the leadership of John Wingate Weeks struck a balanced approach that addressed both environmental and economic issues. The video explores how successful that balancing act has proven to be in the White Mountain National Forest and other eastern national forests established under the Weeks Act.
Coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the White Mountain National Forest, “The White Mountains: Alps of New England” art exhibition and sale will feature the return of award-winning landscapes by nationally-recognized plein air artists Lauren Sansaricq and Erik Koeppel of Jackson, New Hampshire. During the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, numerous artists—including many from the Hudson River School—captured the awe-inspiring summits and verdant glens in the White Mountain region of northern New Hampshire and western Maine. Today, Erik Koeppel and Lauren Sansaricq create masterful works in the Hudson River style based on their love for the expressive potentials of traditional representation. Their extraordinary paintings recapture the lost techniques of the Hudson River School painters, whose works were characterized by a sense of air, dramatic light, distance, and luminosity.
The White Mountain paintings in the art exhibition will be available for purchase over the duration of the show (paintings will be added on a regular basis), with a portion of each sale helping to support public programming at MBHS.

Here are a few more paintings that I'll be including, but the show will be extensive. Come see it in person!

Erik Koeppel, "The Great Gulf" 22x29 in. Oil on canvas
Erik Koeppel, "Autumn Storm on Mount Washington" 16x27 inches. Oil on canvas

Erik Koeppel "Glen Ellis Falls" 23.25 x 19.5 inches, Oil on canvas

I look forward to seeing you Sunday!
