The initial success of our online art sale caused us to reach out to other consignors, which resulted in many new White Mountain paintings added to our sale.

There are now over fifty 19^th-century offerings, including paintings by George Inness, Samuel Lancaster Gerry, Frank Shapleigh, John White Allen Scott, Benjamin Champney, and many more.

We have a number of new to market Erik Koeppel’s, both from the artist and consignors. Bill Davis is also represented with our contemporary artists, along with several others.

We have added a “Special” section with lower priced items by local favorites: Myke Morton, Marty Sage Gilman, and Richard Packer.

The paintings will be sent to you with no shipping costs. Terms can be offered in selected cases.

In this workshop we will attempt to place ourselves in the mindset of the great American Landscape Painters of the 19^th Century. The Hudson River School was a diverse group of artists, with a multitude of styles. In this course we will refer to images from a variety of artist’s work of this period, and explore various drawing and oil painting methods to achieve those ends. Open to all levels.

Description: 

The Museums of the Bethel Historical Society will host a special preview reception of this season’s newest displays, “White Mountain National Forest: A Centennial Exhibition” and “The White Mountains: Alps of New England” (an art exhibition & sale of paintings by Erik Koeppel and Lauren Sansaricq), on Sunday, May 27, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. Refreshments will be served, and the event—at the Society’s Robinson House on Broad Street—is free and open to all.
Visitors to the White Mountain National Forest exhibit will learn how the forested highlands of northern New Hampshire and western Maine came to be appreciated by millions for their scenic and health-giving qualities during the 1800s, only to be devastated by uncontrolled commercial logging and widespread fires in the final decades of that century. The story of how a large portion of the White Mountain region of New Hampshire and Maine was eventually saved and set aside in 1918 for the public’s benefit is told in the exhibit through paintings, historic photos, artifacts, and moving images.
“The Balancing Act: The Story and Legacy of the Weeks Act” will be shown continually in the newly-renovated theater space at Robinson House; the ten minute-long video describes how one of America’s earliest environmental disasters sparked a nationwide movement to purchase, protect, and manage threatened and damaged forest lands for the public good. The forest conservation legislation forged by Congress under the leadership of John Wingate Weeks struck a balanced approach that addressed both environmental and economic issues. The video explores how successful that balancing act has proven to be in the White Mountain National Forest and other eastern national forests established under the Weeks Act.
Coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the White Mountain National Forest, “The White Mountains: Alps of New England” art exhibition and sale will feature the return of award-winning landscapes by nationally-recognized plein air artists Lauren Sansaricq and Erik Koeppel of Jackson, New Hampshire. During the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, numerous artists—including many from the Hudson River School—captured the awe-inspiring summits and verdant glens in the White Mountain region of northern New Hampshire and western Maine. Today, Erik Koeppel and Lauren Sansaricq create masterful works in the Hudson River style based on their love for the expressive potentials of traditional representation. Their extraordinary paintings recapture the lost techniques of the Hudson River School painters, whose works were characterized by a sense of air, dramatic light, distance, and luminosity.
The White Mountain paintings in the art exhibition will be available for purchase over the duration of the show (paintings will be added on a regular basis), with a portion of each sale helping to support public programming at MBHS.

Bethel Historical Society Exhibition until August 29th

Exhibition at The Bethel Historical Society, Bethel, Maine

We're happy to announce an exhibition opening this week (July 2nd) at the Bethel Historical Society entitled Secluded Glens and Noble Landscapes: Traditional White Mountain Art Receptured. 

The show will include approximately 40 contemporary paintings by myself and Lauren Sansaricq, depicting scenes of the White Mountains. The surrounding walls will be filled with 19th Century White Mountain Art from a private collection. Only the contemporary works will be for sale.

Jackson Historical Society, Museum of White Mountain Art Show

Friday, October 17th, the Jackson Historical Society held a reception  to celebrate their 12th annual art sale of White Mountain paintings and to open their new exhibition, “White Mountain Scenes: different Views different Artists, with Historic Maps."

In the sale there was a selection of sixty-five White Mountain scenes by 19th century artists and thirty-one by the best contemporary artists painting in the White Mountains. 

The new exhibition features paintings of favorite scenes - Mt Washington, Chocorua, Kearsarge, Jackson Falls, the Old Man, the Moats and Eagle Cliff - as interpreted by various artists. In addition, there is an excellent collection of 19th century maps loaned by collector David Carchedi and some from the Society's collection. A catalogue of the maps in the exhibition with essays by historians Peter Crane and David Carchedi is available for purchase.

Lauren Sansaricq and I have paintings in the Museum show from the Historical Society's collection, and also had a good showing in the Sale downstairs. Here are some of my photos from the reception in no particular order:

It has been announced by the Jackson Historical Society, that they sold 41 paintings in the sale (now coming to a close). A good number of those were mine.
