I began this painting outdoors on a visit to Acadia National Park years ago. Then it sat in my studio untouched for quite some time. A few months ago I found it amongst some other unfinished pieces, and it stood out to me as something I'd like to continue working on. It was originally painted on a gray day, but my vision shifted as I continued to work into a burst of sunset color. I now feel that it captures the feeling or my memories of this idyllic place.

    In this workshop we will attempt to place ourselves in the mindset of the great American Landscape Painters of the 19th Century. The Hudson River School was a diverse group of artists, with a multitude of styles. In this course we will refer to images from a variety of artist’s work of this period, and explore various drawing and oil painting methods to achieve those ends. Open to all levels.
